Nothing if Not Persistent: Doppelganger's Attempts to Stay Afloat Across the Internet

The Russian Influence Operation (IO), referred to publicly as Doppelganger, is the most persistent and voluminous IO that Meta has ever seen. It tries to operate on a near daily basis despite multiple exposures of its activities by Meta and other journalists, researchers, and governments and specific public attribution to Russian companies, which have been sanctioned by multiple governments. This talk will cover:

Some history and background of Doppelganger; Its most common targets and an assessment of its goals;

The evolution of its tactics in response to disruptions and exposures of its activities and improved defenses, including its efforts to test Meta’s defenses;

An assessment of the impact of its tactical tradecraft adaptations over time on the success of its activities.

Challenges and opportunities for further disruption.
