Cindy Otis is a Director of Analysis for Threat Investigations at Nisos where she leads their disinformation analysis program. Prior to joining Nisos, Cindy served for 10 years in the CIA as a senior all-source Political and Military Analyst, an intelligence briefer to the White House, and a Branch Chief. Her regional area of expertise includes Europe and the Middle East. Before the CIA, Cindy worked in communications for the U.S. Army.

Cindy is a leading expert on disinformation, foreign influence campaigns, and counter-messaging. She is also the author of the forthcoming book on the issue, True or False: A CIA Analyst’s Guide to Spotting Fake News, out with Macmillan in 2020. She regularly writes for media outlets on disinformation and other national security issues and is a member of USA Today’s Board of Contributors and an Expert for The Cipher Brief.

Cindy has a M.A. in International Relations from Boston University and a B.A. in International Politics from Brigham Young University.
